Legalized Mobile Sports Betting Protects Consumers Through Rational Regulation

Jeff Ifrah’s Letter to the Editor ran in the July 29th Illinois Herald & Review, rebutting an editorial which questioned whether sports betting should be available from smartphones. Writing on behalf of iDEA, Jeff explains that legalizing mobile gaming allows the government to better ensure player protection.

Right now the state is unable to regulate online wagering taking place on smartphones from unlicensed bookmakers offshore. By legalizing mobile gaming, the government can ensure that technological innovations will be implemented to protect players so that only those of a certain age, with verifiable IDs, and legitimate financial resources can play.
