Bill Introduced to Illinois Senate, Addresses Sports Wagering Licensing Costs

January 21, 2022

Legislation to address the sports wagering “supplier” licensing costs has been introduced in the Senate (Sen. Cunningham) and House (Sen. Rita). A copy of the bill is available on the member portal.

This is an IDEA led initiative and if enacted will result in considerable cost saving for iDEA members who are licensed sports wagering suppliers in the state.

It is unlikely that these bills will be subject of their own hearing or would move through the legislative process independently. Rather, should the legislature address broader issues related to gaming, we believe that our bill will be included in an omni-bus gaming package towards the end of session.

The Illinois Gaming Board announced last month that they received 3 applications for “Mobile Only” sports wagering licenses that were authorized under the 2019 law. A determination on winning bidders is expected before March, but there is no defined timeline for when these licenses will be issued.
