iDEA Holds Briefing with Lawmakers in Indiana
With support from our local lobbying team, Jeff Ifrah and John Pappas held a briefing for 20+ state lawmakers and staff in Indiana.
The briefing was a high-level introduction to iGaming, including issues and policies lawmakers should consider. We were very pleased that the head of the Casino Association of Ind was in attendance and pledged to work with iDEA to enact iGaming legislation. Also, an Executive for Boyd Gaming (who is based in Indiana) participated and provided very strong remarks about the complementary nature of iGaming to land-based gaming.
Some of the notable participants included:
- Vice Chair, Senate Public Policy Committee
- Vice Chair, House Public Policy Committee
- Lead Staff, House Public Policy Chairman
- The House Majority Whip
- 2 members, House Ways and Means Committee
- 2 members, Senate Appropriations Committee
- Senate majority Chief of Staff
- Rep. Alan Morrison (co-author of IN’s fantasy sports legislation)
- Sen. Jon Ford (author of the current iGaming bill).
A link to a recording of the briefing (approx. 45 min long) is here (Passcode: Qk!tD93a), and the presentation deck Jeff and John used during the briefing can be accessed here.
Our team in Indiana has received very positive feedback from several lawmakers, along with inquiries for materials from others who were unable to participate. They have also asked us to provide supplemental data that demonstrates: 1) size of the existing black market in IN; 2) detailed revenue projections for IN; and 3) additional detail on cannibalization.
Legislatively, Senator Ford’s iGaming bill was filed last week. It will be assigned a committee and a hearing date soon. We will keep you updated on ways iDEA will be supporting the legislative effort.
