Illinois – Amended Bill HB 3136 + Note on Supplier Language
Things are developing in Illinois. First, an amended bill has been filed in the Illinois Senate which includes corrections to the Sports Wagering Act. The amended bill can be accessed here.
The most notable change is the inclusion of a date certain for the expiration of the in-person-registration requirement (March 5, 2022). This would effectively change the statute which currently says in-person registration will stay in place until the “mobile only” licenses are issued, and there was no date certain on that timeframe. Last week iDEA sent a letter to the Illinois legislature calling for a date certain, so this would be a big win.
Unfortunately, the language surrounding the supplier language is unchanged. We are trying to determine why, as we had very good discussions with Senator Cunningham about the need to correct this language. There could be some unknown entity(ies) pushing for status-quo. We are working on this now and hope to get a change made.
The Senate Committee is meeting very soon to approve and then the House could take up later today or tomorrow.
