Important info From the Maryland Lottery Regarding Licensing
As you may know, all applications for competitive sports wagering licenses, along with the non-refundable SWARC license fees are due no later than 5:00 pm on October 21, 2022.
We wanted to take this opportunity to remind everyone that all sports wagering applicants must submit information for their background investigations into Maryland Lottery and Gaming’s eLicensing system in addition to submitting their SWARC applications and fees. The eLicensing portal has been available to potential applicants since June. It is strongly recommended that applicants contact Maryland Lottery and Gaming as soon as possible at 410-230-2699 or send an email to gaming.services@maryland.gov to set up your access to the portal and begin entering your information. Additional information on the eLicensing portal can found here. You must submit all information needed for your background investigation into eLicensing, and the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission must find you qualified before SWARC may award a sports wagering license.
Further, before any awardee is issued a sports wagering license by Lottery and Gaming, the awardee must complete several operational requirements. These include having Internal Controls, Responsible Gambling plans, and general operating procedures reviewed and approved by Lottery and Gaming staff. Awardees must also conduct Controlled Demonstrations where Agency staff will observe live sports wagering operations to be sure systems and staff perform according to regulations. We also strongly recommend that you contact Lottery and Gaming for help preparing for these tasks. Information on procedures and Controlled Demonstrations can be obtained by emailing Michael Eaton at michael.eaton@maryland.gov. Information on Responsible Gambling plans can be obtained from Jasmine Countess at jasmine.countess@maryland.gov.
A detailed explanation of the process all applicants must follow can be found under the “SWARC and MLGCC Parallel Tracks” subheading here.
