Maryland Session Adjourns with No iGaming, but Budget Issues Remain

June 13, 2025

MD’s Legislature adjourned without addressing iGaming. The budget does include an increased tax rate on sports betting from 15% to 20%, which was a compromise from the proposed 30% rate.

The state still faces budget issues. Lawmakers are already discussing a potential special session later this year, which presents an opportunity for iGaming to resurface as a budget solution. We attended an event on June 10 hosted by Senator Ron Watson and were able to discuss the issue with several lawmakers and political influencers in attendance.

iDEA remains engaged with lawmakers to monitor the possibility of a special session.
