MD Lottery Approves Two More Locations for Retail Sports Wagering
The MD Lottery approved two more locations for retail sports wagering: Long Shot’s OTB (sports book operator partner not announced) and Riverboat OTB (PointsBet). Both entities have significant minority/woman ownership.
In total, 7 retail locations have been approved. A launch of retail betting could occur later this month or in January.
The SWARC will continue to play a critical role in determining what types of applicants will be favored for mobile betting. Several members of the committee have made it clear that they would rather promote minority and woman owned applicants rather than large casino companies.
There is also a new disparity study that is being conducted that will factor heavily on how the SWARC approaches mobile licensing.
