Minnesota Bill (HF 2000) Advances out of Committee; Continued Momentum Unlikely
May 3, 2024
On April 30, the House Taxes Committee held a hearing on HF 2000, advanced the bill out of committee, and re-referred the bill to the House Ways and Means Committee.
There is a growing belief that even if this bill were to pass the House, it likely won’t pass the Senate, due in large part to a non-gaming issue. In the Senate, the recent arrest of a Democratic Senator on a burglary charge has strained relations between the Democrats and Republicans, making it very difficult for the Senate to get much done; especially on things needing bi-partisan support, including the sports betting bill.
Time is also becoming a factor, as the Minnesota Legislature adjourns on May 20.
