Nebraska Constitutional Amendment for Sports Betting Clears Committee Hurdle

The constitutional amendment bill was designated as a priority last week and passed out of committee yesterday on a 6-2 vote.
However, it still faces significant hurdles, as it must clear three rounds of full floor debate with at least 30 (out of 49) lawmakers voting in favor. If passed, the issue would be placed on the November 2026 ballot for voters to decide. Lawmakers would also need to pass an enabling law. Some supportive lawmakers oppose OSB expansion but fear industry-driven voter initiatives could bypass legislative oversight.
