Nebraska Sports Betting Legislation Passes Out of Key Committee
Legislation to put sports betting on the ballot passed out of a key committee this week.
However, the enabling legislation – the bill that sets tax rates, fees, skins, etc. – did not advance. Should the ballot measure get approval, it could go on the ballot in either 2025 or 2026. Because the enabling bill did not pass, it means lawmakers will need to come back to address the substance of the law. Here is the language that was approved in committee. The special session of the legislature continues to meet and we expect additional movement on sports betting, but sources on the ground in Nebraska have shared with us that it remains a long-shot to get passed. If the bill does not proceed, state lawmakers, including the governor have said they want to consider the legislation next year during the regular legislative session.
