Ohio Governor Pushes for Full Ban on Prop Bets on Pro Sports

Last week, Governor DeWine called for a ban on all prop bets on professional sports (his full statement here). iDEA has publicly pushed back on the Governors proposal, and state lawmakers have as well.
Ultimately, under the current law, only the leagues themselves can ask to suspend these types of bets, and there is no current indication that they intend to ask for this change.
The next Commission meeting, where this topic will be discussed, is scheduled for August 20. We should anticipate that the Governor will push for this change legislatively if he can’t get it done administratively.
iDEA is conducting outreach to league stakeholders and also to state lawmakers to ensure the Gov’s proposal doesn’t gain momentum.
