OHIO: New Developments Since Member Call on Wednesday

November 19, 2021

Senator Schuring (the chief Senate negotiator for sports betting) has told iDEA that the House and Senate may be close to a deal through the HB 29 conference committee.

The compromise bill will be roughly similar to what passed the Senate in June, but with some differing language regarding the utilization of the second skin, the ability of other license holders to fill their first skin, and the potential economic benefit or impact from the use of the second skin.

There may also be a provision that gives greater latitude to the Casino Control Commission to adjust market access based on the conditions both in the market and based on potential economic impact for the state.

The Senate is looking to have language completed the week of November 29 with a conference committee and floor vote on December 7 or 8.
