Omnibus Gambling Bill Passes Alabama House

On February 15, the House passed the omnibus gambling bill, which includes authorizing online sports betting. It was the first time the conservative Alabama House has supported gambling expansion. The Senate will begin deliberations on the bill next week.
The Senate will begin discussing the bill next week, but no timeline for votes have been set. Its likely the Senate will amend the House passed bill requiring a negotiation between both chambers on a final bill.
The Poarch Creek tribe, which currently operates 3 casinos in the state opposes the current bill and is seeking changes to guarantee a new compact with the state.
