Pennsylvania Reopens Application Period for Online Casino Licenses

January 3, 2023

On December 27, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) announced that it is reopening the application period for qualified gaming entities (QGE) in the state from January 3 – March 3, 2023. The official announcement can be accessed here.

From January 3 – March 3, 2023, operators can submit petitions for one of three different certificates available for online casinos. The 12 remaining certificates, costing $4 million each, are in the following three categories:

  • 3 certificates for games which simulate slot machines
  • 3 certificates for bank table games which simulate casino table games played against the house
  • 6 certificates for non-bank table games (generally, poker)

These QGEs differ from regular iGaming licenses because they don’t require any ties to a land-based casino. An article from Play PA with additional information can be accessed here.
