Sports Betting Discussions Heat Up in Massachussets

April 1, 2022

In the past week there have been increased discussions in the Senate on sports betting. While some notable lawmakers, including the Attorney General (who is running for Gov), have recently announced their support for legislation, there is still not agreement on what a Senate bill will look like.

The House and Senate differ in their approaches and the Senate President said she must have “consensus” if she will allow a bill to move.

Some of the issues that still need to be addressed: collegiate betting; tax rate; credit card ban; official league data; integrity fees, and market access.

The legislature is in year-round, so its likely that discussion will continue in Senate for many weeks before real action.

iDEA has been speaking to key Senators and providing our perspective on several of the outstanding issues.
