TX Committee Passes HB 1942

The House State Affairs Committee passed HB 1942 (Leach) (and its companion HJR 102 (Leach)) and an amended version of HB 2843 (Kuempel) (and its companion HJR 155 (Geren)).
As background, HB 2843 and HJR 155 would allow “destination resort” casinos in the state and legalize sports betting. HB 1942 and HJR 102 are supported by operators, teams and racetracks, and would ask voters to decide in a November election whether they want to legalize sports betting. The legislation would impose a 10% tax rate.
