Update from Maryland

February 17, 2023

On Feb. 15, the Senate Budget and Taxation Committee conducted a hearing on SB 267, legislation to legalize online gaming in Maryland and submit the issue to a voter referendum in the November 2024 general election.

Objections to the bill focused on expanding access to iGaming licenses rather than have them limited to retail casinos.

On Feb. 6, Maryland Senators Craig Zucker and Shelly Hettleman filed SB 621. The bill creates a framework where operators need to use third-party auditors to vet content creators that work with the brand. A committee hearing is scheduled for Mar. 8.
