Update from NC

March 24, 2023

The North Carolina House Commerce Committee passed HB 347 (Swaine), and the House Finance and Judiciary 1 Committees approved the bill on Mar. 22.

The bill next moves to the Rules, Calendar and Operations of the House committee. We anticipate a House floor vote on Mar. 29.  As background, the bill would legalize online sports betting and allow for up to a dozen operators to acquire five-year, $1 million renewable licenses to take bets. Sports betting would be taxed at 14%. A copy of the bill can be accessed here.
