Update from NY

January 20, 2023

On Jan. 17, an aide for Sen. Joseph Addabbo said that he hoped to file his iGaming bill for 2023 sometime this week, but we have not yet seen a bill filed.

As background, Sen. Addabbo remains chairman of the Senate Gaming Committee. Democrats control both chambers, but Republicans made gains. In NY, Republican lawmakers have tended to be more favorable to gaming expansion.

Sen. Addabbo is hoping to tie iGaming to the state’s budget, but we expect that to be difficult to achieve unless the Governor’s office is 100 percent on board. Gov. Hochul has not taken a public position on iGaming.
