WI HB 601 Leaves Committee; House Expected to Vote Next Week
Senate Bill 592 and House Bill 601 have moved out of Committee with the House expected to vote on HB 601 next week. The sponsor of the bill believes he has the votes to pass it out of the House chamber.
Advancing the bill could be difficult in the Senate, which lacks the needed 17 GOP lawmakers’ support. Three large tribal entities are pushing in support of the bill. However, some OSB operators are opposing it, as well as several conservative groups who have raised constitutional and competitive concerns.
The bills would leverage IGRA to allow sports bets made by a person located in Wisconsin using a mobile or other electronic device if the server used to conduct the wager is physically located on a federally recognized American Indian tribe’s Indian lands and if the sports wager is conducted pursuant to a compact between a tribe and Wisconsin.
The Fall floor session will be Nov 11–20.
