Arkansas Racing Commission Meeting to Discuss Regs that Would Allow Online Casino
On Monday, May 6, the Arkansas Racing Commission is expected to discuss and include new regulations that would allow state-licensed entities to offer online casino games. This is not yet public but has been speculated in the media.
Based on a conversation John Pappas had today with Commission staff, a formal meeting and agenda will be announced by tomorrow. iGaming in Arkansas has long been rumored and there has been confusion on how the Commission could authorize it without express statutory approval. But it appears the Commission is prepared to test the breadth of its authority by floating these proposed rules next week.
Arkansas’ new regs would be subject to the 30-day comment period. Following the comment period, the Commission will host another meeting to discuss public input and update the proposed rules. Legislative and Governor sign-off on the rules would also be required. While not confirmed, we suspect that iGaming platform providers would have the same 51% revenue share requirement that currently exists for sports betting.
