The NFL is partnering with the International Center for Responsible Gaming to fund research and educational resources aimed at addressing growing concerns around gambling among college athletes and students. The league will contribute $600,000 over three years through the NFL Foundation to support independent, peer-reviewed research exploring the prevalence, risk factors, and impacts of gambling in college settings, according to a release issued Wednesday.
Maine
Maine lawmakers are weighing a proposal that would legalize online casino gambling in the state, with exclusive rights granted to the Wabanaki Nations. The bill would allow residents to play real money online casino games such as poker, blackjack, and roulette, a shift that could mark a major change in how Maine online gambling operates.
Missouri
- Legal Sports Report: Missouri Sports Betting Could Benefit From New Illinois Tax
For years, Missouri has seen tax dollars leave its state as bettors cross the borders into Illinois and other states with legal sports betting. But with Illinois’ new per-bet tax beginning at 25 cents, customers could start going the other way this year. Missouri sports betting does not begin until Dec. 1, however, so time will tell.
BetMGM, one of the leading sportsbooks in the country, has secured a partnership with Century Casino & Hotel Cape Girardeau to offer online and mobile sports betting in Missouri when the state launches sports wagering on December 1. This is the first partnership announced since Missouri opened its sports betting license application window last month.
Rhode Island
- Legal Sports Report: Lawmakers Ready To Open RI Sports Betting Market
As the Rhode Island legislative session nears a close, a proposal to open up the RI sports betting market still has momentum. On Wednesday, the Rhode Island Senate approved a bill that would open RI sports betting to more operators, 30-2. The Ocean State currently has only one sportsbook operating, Sportsbook Rhode Island, run by International Game Technology.
