Alabama House and Senate at Odds on Gambling Expansion
April 5, 2024
This week the House did not approve the stripped down version of the Senate gambling expansion bill, forcing a conference committee where a final bill will be negotiated.
Sports betting and other expanded gambling such as commercial casinos will be back on the table for discussion, but with the House and Senate very far apart on their appetite for gambling expansion, reaching a compromise will be difficult. It is also possible that through the negotiation, sports betting will be approved to be part of the state’s compact with the tribe. In this case, the tribe could seek to offer retail and even statewide mobile.
