Alberta Bill 48 Passes, Paving the Way for Competitive Online Gaming Market!
Bill 48 has passed, enabling the Minister to move forward with building a regulatory framework for a competitively run online gambling market.
At this week’s Canadian Gaming Summit, Minister Nally reiterated that consultations are ongoing with tribal nations and the province’s existing land-based casinos to see how they will participate in iGaming. The newly formed Alberta iGaming Corp is ramping up and will be establishing rules around licensing, tax rates, responsible gaming and other operational requirements. The Minister suggests that they will closely follow the Ontario model.
He also stated that he expects the market to launch in “early 2026.”
iDEA will continue to monitor the developments in Alberta, and will be engaging with the regulator throughout the rulemaking process.
