Cainos and Sports Betting Stripped Out of Alabama Gambling Bill
March 29, 2024
Senate lawmakers removed casinos and sports betting from the state’s gambling expansion bill. The stripped-down bill, which passed out of the Senate and must now go to the House for concurrence or conference committee, will only authorize a Lottery.
There continue to be negotiations on a gambling expansion package that could potentially bring sports betting back into the mix. This could be through a tribal compact (tribal only) or competitive model.
The legislature is on recess for spring break but will return in mid-April to take up this issue.
