Hawaii’s Gambling Landscape Shifts as House Approves Sports Wagering Bill
March 5, 2025
Last night, the Hawaii House of Representatives passed a sports wagering bill (35-15)—a historic move for a state that has long resisted gambling expansion.
The bill would authorize four operators, but the originally proposed 10% tax rate has been removed and remains under consideration. With the state aiming to generate $10M–$20M in revenue, a significant tax rate increase is expected. However, last week, a Senate committee rejected a similar bill, making the House version’s path forward uncertain. We’ll keep you posted on this “dark horse” state.
