iDEA to propose potential amendment to current Illinois Sports Wagering Law.

September 9, 2021

Currently, the law is written so that suppliers pay an initial fee of $150K for a 4-year license. However, the law states that following that 4 year term, suppliers are required to renew their license at a cost of $150K each year. This is inconsistent to the treatment of all other license categories within the Illinois Sports Wagering Law.

iDEA is working on a proposed amendment to the current Illinois Sports Wagering Law that seeks to address the inequitable treatment of suppliers under the statute. Our Legislative Committee is reviewing the draft, which we will share with the membership when finalized.

John Pappas spoke with the Illinois Gaming Board and, conceptually, they do not oppose the amendment. He also spoke with Rep. Zalewski who believes this was an error in drafting and that an amendment should be viewed as a technical correction to the law, and therefore, non-controversial.
