IN: Governor Intends to Call Special Legislative Session
This week, Gov. Holcomb announced his intent to call a special legislative session at the end of June/early July to address issues associated with inflation. However, there are no limitations on the subject matter that may be addressed during a special session, so it is possible that other issues could be addressed as well. No specific dates for the special session have been set at this point.
iDEA discussed igaming matters with Senate Majority Floor Leader, Mark Messmer. Sen. Messmer confirmed his support for igaming legislation along with his strong belief that the issue must be allowed to move forward for an up or down vote. Sen. Messmer is a very influential member of the Senate Republican caucus and has carried gaming legislation in the past.
iDEA had multiple / continued strategy related communications with Sen. Ford. His current focus is on finding out what the IGC igaming study finds and to help turnout at the NCLGS conference in Boston. Sen. Ford is closely watching how a special session this summer may impact igaming issues next session.
We are also working with Sen. Ford to recruit lawmakers to attend the NCLGS summer conference.
