Indiana Senator Reaffirms Intent to File Bill in ’23
This week, we spoke with Sen. Jon Ford who reaffirmed his intent to file a bill in the 2023 session and to move forward in pursuing both legalization of iGaming and iLottery. He is working through an analysis as to whether the two concepts should be included in a single bill, which is his current intent.
We have also heard from the Speaker of the House confirming his willingness to sit down with us to discuss gaming matters in the next few weeks (though potentially after the May primary election).
The Casino Association of Indiana (CAI) and our lobbying team are meeting to discuss collective lobbying strategy for iGaming initiatives, as well as possible collaboration with the Hoosier Lottery. We are also engaging with legislators to initiate the effort for legalizing iGaming in the 2023 legislative session. We intend to focus on fully educating and garnering support from the “rank and file” members in order to put leadership in a position where, even if they believe the concept may be “controversial,” it becomes the overwhelming will of their caucuses to legalize.
