Kansas Legislature Debates Status of Sports Wagering; Link to iDEA’s Testimony and Archived Video
The Federal and State Affairs Interim Committee held an all day hearing on Sept 22 that focused on the status of sports wagering in the state. iDEA submitted testimony and also testified at the hearing. A video of the hearing can be viewed here (iDEA testimony begins @ 4:48).
During the hearing, some lawmakers proposed that the state would generate more revenue if it moved from a competitive market to a single operator with a higher tax rate. Additionally, raising the tax rate on the existing marketplace was discussed. iDEA, along with several other witnesses, pushed back on these policies and presented data showing how the KS market has been successful and is growing.
