Kansas Legislature to Hold Hearing about Sports Wagering (Link to Agenda and Livestream)
On Monday, Sept 22 an interim committee in the Kansas legislature will be holding a hearing to discuss sports wagering.
Some lawmakers are pushing to change the market from competitive to a single operator, as well as the potential to increase the current 10% tax rate.
Earlier this year, Lawmakers slipped a provision into the budget that prevents the Lottery from negotiating updated or new contracts with sports wagering operators., which will expires in July 2026. The chair of the committee is holding the hearing to get ahead of legislative efforts in 2026 that would raise the sports wagering tax rate and/or propose eliminating the competitive market and imposing a monopoly or duopoly.
The hearing will occur throughout the day and will feature witnesses from government and from the industry to discuss the state of play for sports wagering. The full agenda can be found here. The livestream can be viewed here.
iDEA has requested to testify virtually on Monday afternoon, along side SBA.
