Louisiana Bill Proposing to Raise Sports Betting Tax Rate Deferred

Earlier this week, HB 22-a bill proposing to raise the tax rate on sports betting operators from 15% to 51% and eliminate the ability of operators to deduct promotional expenses-had a hearing in the House Ways and Means Committee.

The sponsor of HB 22 “deferred” his bill, based on feedback and input he received. This means that the bill is effectively dead for this special session. The sponsor still says he wants to consider this legislation going forward and will work with industry to understand this issue better. iDEA submitted testimony to the House Ways and Means eliminate the ability of operators to deduct promotional expenses-had a hearing in the House Ways and Means Committee. While this issue is closed for now, it’s not dead and it does create an opportunity to actively discuss iCasino/iPoker as a meaningful alternative/compromise to any increase on tax on sports wagering.
