Louisiana Bill to Increase Sports Betting Tax

The House is considering HB 639 which would increase the sports betting tax rate from 15% to 32.5%.
The bill passed out of committee (20-1) and now heads to the House floor for consideration. An attempt to raise the tax rate (to 51%) during a special session last year was defeated. However, this effort which would align sports wagering taxes with VLT/video poker taxes has more momentum. It still needs ⅔ vote of the House to proceed.
