Louisiana HB639 Proposes Significant Tax Increase on Sports Betting

Louisiana is considering HB 639 which would increase the sports betting tax rate from 15% to 32.5%. The bill passed out of committee (20-1) two weeks ago, but has been slowed down due to organized opposition (including iDEA’s). The bill sponsor is now engaging stakeholders. The bill would need ⅔ vote to proceed; the House returns to session on May 12.
