MA Gaming Commission Update
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission has wrapped up their meeting. Please see below for the meeting highlights:
*There is now a launch window. The Commission voted to approve a motion to launch retail sports betting in late January and online sports betting in early March. However, these windows are subject to change due to a couple of different potential factors.
*There was a discussion on the scoring system for the awarding of the Category 3 licenses. Some of the things that were discussed were how to score applicants…such as using pass/fail, numeric scoring, using the meets/exceeds/doesn’t exceed expectations or a combination of these things. There was also a discussion on using a segmented process (more than 1 round in the selection process), as well as the potential of having the applicants do interviews or presentations.
*More was discussed during the meeting about the initial scoping survey. You can find the survey here.
A Couple of Things To Note:
- This survey must be submitted as part of the application for a Category 1, 2, or 3 Sports Wagering License and must be submitted as a prerequisite to the submission of additional application forms. Failure to submit this survey by October 17, 2022 shall result in the Commission deeming the application incomplete and administratively closed.
- Do not email the completed survey to the Commission. Rather, email the Commission at communications@massgaming.gov to get a link to a secure file drop for survey submission.
*The Commission released a draft application for Category 1, Category 2, and Category 3 sports wagering licenses. The draft application can be found here. The MGC is seeking public comment on the draft application. Those comments will be accepted through 5 p.m. on Monday, October 17, 2022 and can be made by filling out the comment form found here.
*The Commission voted to license vendors.
*The Commission will be meeting again next week.
