Maryland Budget Deal: 20% Sports Betting Tax, iGaming Deferred to Special Session

April 4, 2025

The House and Senate are close to finalizing their budget, which does not include iGaming.

The budget will include an increase in the sports betting tax rate from 15% to 20%. While an increase, it is significantly less than the 30% rate that was initially proposed.

Depending on final negotiations, it is unlikely that MD’s budget issues will be resolved. iGaming could be central to discussion during a special session which could happen as soon as June.
