Maryland Lottery and Gaming Commission Issues New Proposed Sports Betting Rules

August 30, 2024

Yesterday, the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Commission issued new proposed rules for both sports betting and fantasy sports.

Notable in the sports betting rules are changes regarding the following:

  1. How an operator reports its annual financial statements
  2. Collecting, sharing, and investigating bettor complaints
  3. Data security
  4. A new regulation providing direction to sportsbooks that cease operations
  5. Updated geolocation requirements
  6. New requirements for multi-factor authentication

The DFS rules, look to strengthen the Commission’s existing opposition to pick’em-style fantasy contests, even the ones that are peer-to-peer. There will be an industry/public comment process for these proposed rules.
