Massachusetts Added to Our States to Watch

We’ve added Massachusetts to our watch list of states. As of today a House and Senate bills have been introduced to authorize iGaming. 

 

The identical bills would impose a $5m licensing fee (5 year renewal) and a 20% tax rate. There would be up to 10 online licenses available: 6 tethered to land based casinos and 4 untethered. 

We are expecting another bill to be introduced by Rep. David Muradian. He has been a longtime champion and was one of iDEA’s panelists on our Power Lunch Summit last year. 

Recently, the CEO of Wynn, which has a land-based casino in MA, raised concerns over iGaming and its impact on the land-based business. If a bill is going to advance it will need to do so over his objections.
