MI Governor Proposes Removal of Promotion Deductions for Sports Wagering

The Michigan Governor is proposing to remove promotion deductions for sports wagering as part of the budget. This would also impose a per wager (.25 and .50 cent) tax on sports bets.

Currently, the sports wagering tax rate plus the full deductibility makes it one of the lowest effective tax rates in the country.

House leaders have expressed concern over the Governor’s budget including any effort to increase gaming taxes. iDEA will be engaging with lawmakers to oppose the tax increases.
