Mississippi House Bill to Advance Through Senate Committees

On April 2, the Senate Gaming Committee stripped out the language in House Bill 774 and passed a shell bill out of committee, so that the bill could move forward and meet the deadline for House bills to advance through Senate committees.
It is expected that the Senate will pass a more structured, amended version of the bill very soon. The Senate bill will differ from the House-passed bill, which has industry support. The differences between the two versions of the bill will be worked out in a conference committee.
Deadlines that Senate passage of HB 774 is up against:
- April 10: Deadline for original floor action on general bills, originating in the other legislative chamber
- April 11: Deadline for reconsideration and passage of general bills, originating in the other legislative chamber
