Mississippi House Committee Advances Amended Senate Bills with Sports Betting Provisions
House Bill 1302 (Rep. Eure’s sports betting bill) died in committee as it wasn’t reported by the Senate Gaming Committee prior to the committee reporting deadline.
However, two Senate bills that were in the House Gaming Committee (Senate Bill 2381 and Senate Bill 2510) were amended by the committee and had sports betting language inserted into them and then were passed out of committee. They now head to the full House.
While these bills may make it out of the House, since House Bill 1302 didn’t make it out of the Senate Gaming Committee, it isn’t very likely that the amended versions of these bills make it across the finish line. There is a possibility that these bills end up in a conference committee, with members of the House and the Senate negotiating final language. However, the House and the Senate still are pretty far apart on sports betting.
