New Georgia Sports Betting Strategy Emerges Following Defeat of Casino-Inclusive Referendum Bill

New bill (S208) was introduced this week to put sports betting under the authority of the lottery, and would bypass the need for a constitutional referendum.
We expect that Rep. Wiedower will intro his bill, which has the backing of industry, today or early next week.
There would need to be immediate action on his legislation with a 03/06 deadline to pass a bill out of either chamber.
On 02/27 a bill that would have given Georgia voters the ability to approve sports betting and land-based casinos failed to advance. The inclusion of casinos in the bill made it a non-starter.
