North Carolina Legislature Resumes Session
The legislature started is session on 05/18. To date, there has only been discussion of sports wagering but no action.
Separately, there is discussion of a “trailer bill,” making some fixes to SB 688, that include adding sports venues for retail betting and also giving mobile exclusively to tribes on their lands/casinos.
iDEA is engaging with lawmakers and seeking opportunities to testify or otherwise advocate for policies. To date, there has only been discussion of sports wagering but no action. House lawmakers have indicated their desire to pass the Senate bill as is, and then pass a “trailer bill” to address other items including a potential increase to the tax rate – currently at 8% could go as high as 15%.
We understand that next week, the House Judiciary Committee could schedule a hearing and vote on the bill.
