Ohio “Cash on Hand” Regulations Could Impact Mobile Betting Launch
Ohio sports wagering regulations that require “cash on hand” to pay out players could have an impact on the launch for mobile betting. It has been rumored that kiosk-based Class C retail establishment may seek to amend the existing law or issue a legal challenge. See this article for additional background.
Any legislative action would have to occur during the “lame duck” session which is after the November elections. We are confident that a legislative change can be blocked, but a legal challenge could be far more unpredictable.
Ultimately, the state regulator and the Lottery regulator are working to create some accommodation for these retailers so it will not impact the full launch of sports wagering in Ohio.
iDEA continues to engage with the OCCC on matters related to rulemaking and the launch of mobile sports betting.
All applicants can be found on the OCCC website and the list is updated every Friday afternoon.
