Two Bills Filed to Legalize Sports Betting in Minnesota
February 24, 2023
One main difference is the legislation now provides for 11 online sports betting licenses, one for each tribe. Previously, the tribes shared two master mobile sports betting licenses. The online tax rate would be 10%. The bills are preliminarily supported by the state’s tribes and professional teams.
On Feb. 22, the House Commerce, Finance and Policy Committee (chaired by Stephenson) conducted a hearing on HF2000.
We anticipate that Sen. Jeremy Miller will also introduce a sports betting proposal this year that will include more venues (including racetracks) than HF2000 and SF1949, but we have not yet seen a bill filed.
