TX Committee Holds Hearings on Series of Sports Betting Bills

The Texas House State Affairs Committee held hearings on HJR 155 (Geren) and HB 2843 (Kuempel), HB 1942 (Leach) and HJR 102 (Leach), and HJR 97 (Green). The Committee did not vote on any of the measures.
As background, HJR 97 would a referendum in front of Texas voters to legalize land-based casinos and sports betting. Retail casino stakeholders support this measure. HB 1942 and HJR 102, supported by operators, teams and racetracks, asks voters to decide in a November election whether they want to legalize sports betting. The legislation would impose a 10% tax rate. HJR 155 and HB 2843 seek to allow “destination resort” casinos in the state and legalize sports betting.
