Update from Georgia

February 17, 2023

State Rep. Marcus Wiedower filed HB 380, a bill to legalize sports betting in Georgia that is supported by operators and teams. The legislation would allow for 16 mobile sports betting licenses, as well as five to seven retail sports betting licenses.

The bill would impose a tax rate of 15%, would not require a constitutional amendment because sports betting would be overseen by the Georgia Lottery Corp. The House Higher Education Committee held a hearing on the bill on Feb. 16. No vote will take place, but we anticipate a committee vote next week.

On Feb. 14, the Senate Economic Development and Tourism Committee held a hearing on SB 57, the other sports betting bill that has been filed in Georgia this year.  We anticipate a committee vote next week.
