Update from John Pappas on iGaming in NY state

March 9, 2022

This morning I got a call from Senator Addabbo. He informed me that he has run into some resistance to add iGaming into the one-house budget. While he has not given up, he was less optimistic that it would be included.

He cited that some in leadership are not compelled to seek out revenues at this moment since the state budget coffers are relevantly flush with covid stimulus, etc. Further, he said that the priority for many in the caucus is the authorization of the down-state casinos, which he believes will be included in the budget package. Finally, he said that some lawmakers have said they want to see how mobile sports betting continues to “play-out” before committing to another mobile gaming expansion.

He was very complimentary of iDEA and our efforts thus far. He wants us to be his ally moving forward on this issue. While we may not get far this session, the discussion is at least underway in NY and we can continue to build from this.

Stay tuned for more on this issue and I’ll provide further updates on the budget.
