UPDATE: Vermont Ramps up Discussions on Sports Wagering in the State

November 18, 2022

Earlier this year, the Vermont legislature approved a sports wagering “Study Committee,” and Committee discussions are ramping up around best practices for sports wagering in the state.

Legislation will be drafted based on the recommendations that come out of these discussions and then go through the legislative process in 2023. In the last few meetings, the Committee’s recommendations have leaned toward a state-controlled competitive bid model, like New Hampshire or New York.

iDEA is in the process of finalizing written testimony to the Sports Betting Study Committee and intends to deliver it before the Committee’s final meeting on Nov. 22. iDEA’s written testimony will focus on the importance of a competitive market, reasonable tax rates and appropriate supplier licensing.
