VA iGaming Bills Face Key Votes Next Week as Feb 18 Crossover Deadline Approaches
In Virginia, a substitute version of HB 161 is scheduled to be voted out of the House Appropriations Committee on Feb 13. SB 118 will be up for final passage in the Senate on Feb 16.
In the House, we expect HB 161 to pass, making it eligible for House floor consideration ahead of the crossover deadline next week. This bill will be different from the Senate version.
In the Senate, the team is working to secure the votes needed for SB 118’s passage and the patron is working to secure votes from her colleagues as well.
Overall, our goal at the moment is to get one or both bills to pass their respective chambers. This keeps iGaming alive through the end of session, however, signals from key leaders have indicated that we may need to come back next year to pass the bill.
The crossover deadline is Feb 18 and bills would need to pass either the House or Senate by this date for continued consideration. iDEA team and our lobbyist have been on the ground meeting with lawmakers this week to educate on the bill and secure passage out of the House Committee and the Senate.
